A step-by-step guide to running your own RedM server for Red Dead Redemption 2 roleplay — get a license key, install the server with txAdmin, set the essential server.cfg lines, open port 30120 and add a framework.
RedM is Cfx.re's multiplayer platform for Red Dead Redemption 2 — the Red Dead sibling of FiveM, with the same license keys, txAdmin panel and server artifacts. If you have run a FiveM server, most of this will feel familiar; the one line that differs is set gamename rdr3.
You can self-host the server, or rent RedM server hosting with txAdmin ready and the port open. Every player — and you — needs a legitimate copy of Red Dead Redemption 2.
What you'll need
- A Cfx.re account and a free license key from the Cfx.re portal.
- A Windows or Linux machine with 4–8 GB of RAM to start, more for a big resource stack.
- MariaDB/MySQL if you plan to run a roleplay framework.
- Access to your router or firewall to open TCP and UDP 30120.
Set up a RedM server, step by step
Step 1: Get a license key
Sign in to the Cfx.re portal and create a server license key. It is free and tied to your account; you will paste it into txAdmin or server.cfg.
Step 2: Download the server artifacts
Download the latest recommended FXServer build for Windows or Linux and extract it to its own folder. The same artifacts run FiveM and RedM.
Step 3: Start txAdmin
Run
FXServer.exe(orrun.shon Linux). txAdmin opens its setup page on port 40120: link your Cfx.re account, then deploy a recipe or start from a blank server data folder.Step 4: Set the essential server.cfg lines
The
gamename rdr3line is what makes it a RedM server. Keep OneSync on; 48 slots is the default ceiling for a standard key.endpoint_add_tcp "0.0.0.0:30120" endpoint_add_udp "0.0.0.0:30120" set gamename rdr3 set onesync on sv_maxclients 48 sv_hostname "My RedM Server" sv_licenseKey "your_license_key"Step 5: Add a framework and the database
Most RP servers run VORP or RSG Core. Upload the framework's resources, import its SQL into MariaDB, add the connection string for oxmysql and
ensurethe resources in server.cfg in the order the framework documents.set mysql_connection_string "mysql://user:password@localhost/redm?charset=utf8mb4" ensure oxmysqlStep 6: Open the port
Forward TCP and UDP 30120 and allow them in the firewall. Keep txAdmin's port 40120 restricted to yourself.
Step 7: Join the server
Start RedM, press F8 and type
connect ip:30120, or find the server in the list once it is public.
Run a stable RedM roleplay server
Use txAdmin
Scheduled restarts, the live console, player management and resource monitoring in one panel.
Back up the database
Characters, money and inventories live in MariaDB. Automate dumps before you update the framework.
Watch resource time
One slow script hitches everyone. Check resource usage in txAdmin before adding more.
Lock down txAdmin
Strong passwords and two-factor for every admin; never share the master account.
Common problems & fixes
The server starts as FiveM or players cannot join
The set gamename rdr3 line is missing from server.cfg. Add it and restart.
Not showing in the server list
Check the license key, that TCP and UDP 30120 are both open, and that the server is not set to private. Joining with F8 connect ip:30120 confirms it is reachable.
Framework errors on start
Resources are started in the wrong order or the SQL was not imported. Start oxmysql first, then the framework core, then its modules.
More than 48 players will not fit
The 48-slot ceiling comes from the license key. Raising it needs a Cfx.re subscription on your account — it is not a host setting.
