Fix TeamSpeak "failed to connect to server"

Why TeamSpeak cannot connect and how to fix it: the ports (UDP 9987 voice), entering the address and a custom port, "could not resolve hostname" (DNS), firewalls and VPNs blocking UDP, and reading the connection log.

Intro

TeamSpeak says "failed to connect to server"? It's almost always the address, the port, or UDP being blocked. Let's check all three.

The ports

TeamSpeak voice runs on UDP 9987. File transfers use TCP 30033. But to connect, you only need the voice port.

The address

If the server uses the default port, just type the address. If it uses a custom port, add it after a colon.

Could not resolve hostname

"Could not resolve hostname" is a DNS problem. The address is mistyped, or its DNS isn't set. Try connecting with the raw IP to rule it out.

Still timing out

Still timing out? Make sure the voice port is open on the server's firewall, and that your own firewall, antivirus or VPN isn't blocking UDP.

Connection log

And check the connection log, not just the pop-up. The server might simply be full, or the password might be wrong.

Recap

Quick recap: the right address, the right port, and UDP allowed. TeamSpeak hosting at esagames.ro.
