Intro
"Outdated server" or "Outdated client" in Minecraft? Both mean the same thing: your version doesn't match the server's. Here's which way to fix it.
Which message?
"Outdated server" means your game is newer than the server. "Outdated client" means your game is older. The message tells you the server's version.
Match the version
To fix it, open the Minecraft Launcher, go to Installations, and create a new installation with the server's exact version. Select it, press Play, and join.
ViaVersion
Running the server? Install ViaVersion on Paper or Spigot. It lets newer clients join, and with ViaBackwards, older ones too. So a launcher update never locks your players out.
Modded servers
On a modded server, it's stricter. Every player needs the same Forge or Fabric version, and the same modpack version. ViaVersion can't fix a mod loader mismatch.
Recap
Quick recap: match your launcher to the server version, or run ViaVersion on the server. Minecraft hosting at esagames.ro.
