DayZ Admin Commands — BattlEye RCon & Admin Tools (2026)

8 min read Updated 10 August 2026 ESAGAMES Team

DayZ admin commands work differently from what most guides claim. DayZ Standalone runs on the Enfusion engine and has no in-game chat command line, so the old Arma-style #kick, #shutdown and #lock commands simply don't work. Real admin happens through BattlEye RCon and the Community Online Tools mod — here's the accurate list.

The Arma commands don't work in DayZ

#login, #kick, #shutdown, #lock, #init and similar are Arma engine commands. DayZ Standalone runs on Enfusion, which has no in-game chat command line — so none of those work here. Ignore any guide that lists them. Admin is done via BattlEye RCon and admin mods instead.

The three ways to admin a DayZ server

  • BattlEye RCon — remote console for player management (kick, ban, say). Connect an RCon client to the server.
  • Server config & mission files — serverDZ.cfg and the mission economy (types.xml) for the rules themselves.
  • An admin mod — Community Online Tools (COT) adds in-game admin powers (teleport, spawn, god, weather/time).

BattlEye RCon commands

Enable RCon in your BattlEye config (a password and port), then connect an RCon client. Common commands:

CommandWhat it does
playersList connected players with their numbers and GUIDs.
adminsList logged-in RCon admins.
kick <number> [reason]Kick a player by their in-list number.
say <number> <message>Message one player (say -1 messages everyone).
ban <number|guid> <minutes> [reason]Ban a player (0 = permanent).
bansList current bans.
removeBan <ban#>Remove a ban by its list number.
loadBansReload the bans file without a restart.
Scheduled restarts use BEC

BattlEye RCon has no clean "restart" command. For scheduled restarts and automated messages, admins use BEC (BattlEye Extended Controls) alongside RCon — it runs the 4-6 hour restart cycle DayZ needs.

Community Online Tools (COT) — in-game admin

COT is a Steam Workshop mod (needs Community Framework); both go in your -mod= launch parameter, and you grant admins via COT's permission files. It adds an in-game admin menu with:

FeatureWhat it does
Player managementHeal, kick, spectate, manage connected players.
TeleportationTeleport yourself or players around the map.
Item & vehicle spawningSpawn gear and vehicles in-game.
God mode & invisibilityMake yourself invulnerable or invisible.
Weather & timeControl the weather and time of day live.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Do the #kick and #shutdown commands work in DayZ?

No. Those are Arma engine commands. DayZ Standalone runs on the Enfusion engine and has no in-game chat command line, so none of the # commands work. Admin is done through BattlEye RCon and admin mods instead.

How do I admin a DayZ server then?

Three ways: BattlEye RCon (a remote console for kick/ban/say), the server config and mission files (serverDZ.cfg and types.xml for the rules), and an admin mod like Community Online Tools for in-game powers.

How do I use BattlEye RCon on a DayZ server?

Enable RCon in your BattlEye config with a password and port, then connect an RCon client. From there you can run players, kick , ban, say and the other RCon commands.

How do I get in-game admin powers in DayZ?

Install the Community Online Tools (COT) mod (it needs Community Framework), add both to your -mod= launch parameter, and grant yourself access in COT's permission files. It adds an admin menu for teleport, spawning, god mode, weather and time.

How do I restart a DayZ server on a schedule?

BattlEye RCon has no clean restart command, so admins use BEC (BattlEye Extended Controls) alongside RCon to run scheduled restarts and messages — the 4-6 hour cycle DayZ needs to stay healthy.

How do I ban a player in DayZ?

Via BattlEye RCon: run players to get their number or GUID, then ban [reason] (0 minutes = permanent). bans lists current bans and removeBan removes one.

How do I teleport or spawn items in DayZ?

Not with a text command — DayZ has no in-game command line. You do it through the Community Online Tools (COT) admin mod, which adds a menu for teleporting, spawning items and vehicles, god mode and more. Install COT and grant yourself access in its permission files.

How do I message players from RCon in DayZ?

Use say to message one player (found via players), or say -1 to broadcast to everyone. It's one of the standard BattlEye RCon commands.

Can I control the weather or time on a DayZ server?

Not through BattlEye RCon — those are handled in the server config and mission files, or live via the Community Online Tools mod, which has weather and time controls in its admin menu.
