Terraria Server Commands — Vanilla & TShock (2026)

7 min read Updated 10 August 2026 ESAGAMES Team

Terraria server commands come in two flavours: the light vanilla console (save, time, kick, ban) and the far more powerful TShock command set (/ban, /god, /item, /tp and more) if you run a TShock server. Here's the list that matters for each, with syntax.

Vanilla vs TShock

The stock Terraria dedicated server has a small console command set (no slashes). TShock is the popular server mod that adds a large in-game command set (typed in chat with /) plus user accounts and permissions. Which commands you have depends on which server you run.

Vanilla server console commands

CommandWhat it does
say <message>Broadcast a server message.
playingList connected players.
kick <player>Kick a player.
ban <player>Ban a player.
saveSave the world now.
time / dawn / noon / dusk / midnightShow or set the time of day.
settleSettle all liquids instantly.
exitSave and stop the server.

TShock admin commands

CommandWhat it does
/kick <player> [reason]Kick a player.
/ban add <player> [reason]Ban a player.
/mute <player>Mute a player's chat.
/godToggle god mode.
/item <name> [stack]Give yourself an item.
/give <item> <player> [stack]Give a player an item.
/heal [player]Fully heal.
/tp <player>Teleport to a player.

TShock world & accounts

CommandWhat it does
/time <day|night|noon|...>Set the time of day.
/butcherKill all NPCs/enemies.
/spawnmob <mob> [amount]Spawn a mob or boss.
/worldinfoShow world details.
/user add <name> <pass> <group>Create a user account.
/saveSave the world now.
TShock uses accounts & groups

TShock admin commands are gated by user accounts and groups (superadmin, etc.), not just being on the server. Register with /register, log in with /login, and assign groups with /user. Only trusted groups get the powerful commands.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How do I run commands on a Terraria server?

On a vanilla dedicated server, type console commands (no slash) in the server window — say, save, kick, time. On a TShock server, type commands in the in-game chat with a leading slash (/ban, /item, /tp), once you're logged into an admin account.

What's the difference between vanilla and TShock commands?

Vanilla Terraria has a small console command set for basic server control. TShock is a server mod that adds a large in-game command set plus user accounts and permissions — far more admin power, at the cost of running TShock instead of the stock server.

How do I give items on a Terraria server?

You need TShock — then /item [stack] gives yourself an item and /give [stack] gives one to a player. The stock vanilla server has no item-giving command.

How do I make myself admin on a TShock Terraria server?

Register an account with /register, log in with /login, then have an existing superadmin assign your account to a group with /user. TShock gates commands by account group, not just presence on the server.

How do I change the time on a Terraria server?

On vanilla, use dawn / noon / dusk / midnight in the console. On TShock, use /time in chat. Both set the world's time of day.

How do I save a Terraria server?

save in the vanilla console, or /save in TShock chat. exit saves and stops the vanilla server cleanly.

How do I spawn a boss on a Terraria server?

You need TShock — /spawnmob [amount] spawns mobs and bosses (e.g. /spawnmob "Eye of Cthulhu"). The vanilla server has no spawn command, so this only works on TShock.

How do I teleport to a player in Terraria?

With TShock, /tp teleports you to a player and /tphere brings them to you. These are admin commands gated by your TShock user group.

How do I set up user accounts on a TShock server?

Players /register a password then /login; admins create or assign accounts with /user add and manage permissions by group. TShock gates its commands by account group, not just being on the server.
