Intro
Want your own Terraria world online for your friends? Here's how to make a Terraria server, step by step.
Self-host or hosted
First, choose. Host it yourself: it's free, but you need a PC that stays on, port forwarding, and your home IP is exposed. Or use a host: always online, with a panel, and DDoS protection.
Get the server
On Windows, the dedicated server, TerrariaServer.exe, comes with the game. The free Linux server is on terraria.org. For plugins and permissions, use TShock instead.
Create a world
Run the server, and create a new world: choose the size, the difficulty, and a name. Or pick a world you already have.
Port & password
Set the port and a password. The default port is 7777, TCP. Put it all in a serverconfig.txt file, and the server starts the same way every time.
Open the port
Self-hosting? Forward TCP port 7777 on your router, to your PC. On a hosted server, the port is already open.
Invite friends
Now invite your friends. In Multiplayer, they choose Join via IP, and enter your public IP, and the port, if it isn't 7777.
Recap
And back up your world file — it's your whole server. Terraria hosting at esagames.ro.
