Intro
Your Minecraft server works for you… but your friends get "Can't connect to server"? Here are the six causes, in the order to check them.
The address
Cause one: the wrong address. 127.0.0.1, and 192.168 addresses, only work inside your own home. Give your friends your public IP — search "what is my IP". If the server isn't on port 25565, they type the IP, a colon, and the port. On a hosted server, use the exact address from your panel.
The port
Cause two: the port isn't forwarded. A server on your own PC needs TCP port 25565 forwarded on your router, to your PC. If your internet provider uses CGNAT, forwarding can't work — then a hosted server is the way.
The firewall
Cause three: the firewall. Windows Firewall can block Java. When it asks, allow Java on private and public networks.
The version
Cause four: a different version. A 1.21 client can't join a 1.20 server. Everyone picks the server's exact version in the launcher.
Online mode & whitelist
Cause five: online mode and the whitelist. With online mode on, only genuine, signed-in accounts can join — keep it on. And if the whitelist is on, add your friends with whitelist add, and their name.
Java vs Bedrock
Cause six: Java versus Bedrock. They can't join each other by default. Make sure everyone's on the same edition — or run Geyser and Floodgate.
Recap
Quick recap: the right address, an open port, the firewall, the same version, online mode and the whitelist, and the same edition. Or let us host it — you just share the address from your panel. esagames.ro.
