How to Fix FiveM Server Lag

FiveM server lag on a roleplay server is almost always a resource problem — a heavy or badly-written script eating the server thread. Here's how to find the culprit with resmon, optimise or replace it, and make sure the CPU behind it is fast enough, since FiveM is single-thread bound.

FiveM runs your resources largely on one CPU thread, so the metric that matters is server thread time / hitches — when it climbs, everyone feels rubber-banding and delayed interactions. The usual cause is one or two heavy resources, not the whole server. Find them, fix them, and confirm the CPU is fast enough.

Find heavy resources with resmon

Open the resource monitor — type resmon in the client console (F8) on the server, or use txAdmin. Sort by CPU/ms: the resources at the top eating the most time each tick are your lag. This is the single most useful step.

Optimise or replace the worst offender

A resource sitting at high ms while idle is badly written — often a loop with no wait, or constant database calls. Update it, swap it for an optimised version, or remove it. One bad script can hitch the whole server.

Watch for server thread hitches

txAdmin logs "server thread hitch" warnings when a tick takes too long. Correlate the hitch times with what's happening (a specific job, event or script) to pin the cause.

Enable OneSync (and size slots right)

OneSync is required for 48+ slots and modern scripts, and it improves entity handling. Make sure it's on, and don't run more slots than your CPU and scripts can actually handle smoothly.

Trim the resource count

Every started resource costs some thread time. Stop resources you don't use, and avoid stacking multiple scripts that do the same job. A lean resource list is a faster server.

FiveM lives on single-core speed. If resmon is clean but a full server still hitches, the CPU is the wall — a fast high-clock dedicated core is the fix, not more RAM.
