FiveM vs RedM: What's the Difference?
FiveM and RedM both come from Cfx.re (a Rockstar Games company) and power custom multiplayer servers — but for different games. Here's how they compare and which one fits your community.
What is FiveM?
FiveM is the custom multiplayer framework for Grand Theft Auto V. It's the bigger, more mature platform, with a massive ecosystem of resources and two dominant roleplay frameworks (ESX and QBCore). If you've seen modern GTA RP servers, that's FiveM.
What is RedM?
RedM is the same idea for Red Dead Redemption 2 — custom multiplayer servers for the Wild West. It's newer and smaller than FiveM, with a growing (but less vast) resource ecosystem, and frameworks like RedEM:RP and VORP.
The key differences
- The game — FiveM = GTA V (modern city RP), RedM = RDR2 (Western RP).
- Maturity — FiveM has far more resources, scripts and community support.
- Frameworks — FiveM: ESX/QBCore; RedM: RedEM:RP, VORP.
- Vibe — fast-paced modern roleplay vs. slower, immersive Western roleplay.
Which should you choose?
Pick FiveM if you want the biggest ecosystem, the most scripts and a larger potential player base. Pick RedM if your community loves the Red Dead setting and wants a more immersive, slower-paced Western roleplay experience. Both need a strong CPU — they're heavily single-thread bound — and you (and your players) need a legitimate copy of the respective game.
Hosting-wise they're similar: a CPU-bound server, a Cfx.re key, a framework and a database. We host both on high-clock CPUs behind a multi-Tbps Frankfurt network.
FiveM and RedM are Cfx.re / Rockstar Games platforms. Grand Theft Auto V and Red Dead Redemption 2 are trademarks of Rockstar Games / Take-Two Interactive. ESAGAMES is an independent hosting provider and is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Rockstar Games, Take-Two Interactive or Cfx.re. You must own a legitimate copy of the respective game.
Host your RP server
Our FiveM hosting runs txAdmin, ESX/QBCore and MySQL on high-clock CPUs behind multi-Tbps Anti-DDoS. RedM available on request.
